I'm finally going to do it, I'm going to print my own Simpsons book.
I've been thinking about it for a long time, and there are two main routes, one is to try and post an encyclopedic book that covers everything, or the other is to highlight great peices from a collection and cover some basics in most collections. I have chosen the latter.
I've already set myself out a timetable, and found a printers I will use (www.blurb.com) and have the software.
I'm planning a full colour book of about 40 pages (so giant pamplet really) that will show the rockbed items post-1997 (so when the last good book came out):
WOS, Kidrobot, McFarlane and Hamilton
And then then about a third of the book to particularly good, fun or unusual items from various categories such as phonecards, soft toys, kitchenware, sports toys etc.
The rest of the book, about a third, will be for promotional, one off, very rare and custom items
The aim of the book, is to show the what is out there to the collector while being bright with clear images and informative captions.
I always found the Getz books to be lacking in information, although the pictures are fantastic, while the grey-green book has too much information and not enough pictures
Most of the items will come from my collection, however as I plan exactly the items I want in the book, I will need photos of items I dont own and will be looking for submissioons. However I cant pay for these, as I will probably only just break even on the book anyway, but at the moment I am considering giving away 1 free copy of the book for each picture submitted, eg if i use 3 of your pictures you get 3 books, but that is a long way off
I will keep you posted, and if you have any suggestions of what you think MUST go in the book, that is not covered by other guides, post your suggestions.
