Is anyone else having difficulty keeping up with this line? Is anyone even interested in keeping up with this line?

I was finally able to track down the last figure I needed to complete the second wave of the DC Universe 6'' figures, but it was really hard, and I
didn't even find any of the variants. (I think they were Aquaman and Firestorm.) And now I see that the third series is already coming out later this
month. And on top of that, I read that Wave 5 will be exclusive to Wal-Mart and that TRU will carry exclusive two-packs. And the SDCC will be the only place to
get the Lobo figure. And I'm not sure what to make of the DC Infinite Heroes line. So I thought I would start a discussion thread to sort some of this out.

I was able to pick up the long-haired Aquaman on eBay today. Yay! My first variant. Unless the short-haired version is the variant. They both seem to sell for
around $20 on eBay.
Has anyone seen the third wave in stores yet? |

Wave 3 isn't out yet. It seems Mattel had a production delay, which bumped its release back.

There is a Superman variant as well. He is available in both red and blue. I've never seen the Aquaman variant. Around here, the hard ones to find appear
to be Harley and Aquaman.

I did know about the two Supes, but they were both so prevalent that I wasn't sure whether one was a variant or whether they were both just part of the regular wave. Ebay sellers are claiming that both versions of Aquaman are the variant and that the white-faced Firestorm is the variant (it's not; the variant is the red-faced version). I've also seen a Red Tornado that had a dull, matte paint job instead of the glossy paint. I'm not sure whether that actually constitutes a variant or just a production mistake. Supposedly, the Penguin variant is an actual penguin, but I've never seen one. |

Both supes are shipped 50/50 I believe, so neather is the true variant Short hair (classic) Aquaman is the regular and the long hair (modern) is the variant, but again about a 50/50 ratio. Red Tornado's and Firestorm's variants are MIA, though Firestorms IS supposed to ship in the newer cases coming out (more running change thatn variant). Red Tornado's got canned, but may end up as a Mattel site exclusive (they are putting the site up at SDCC). The Penguin variant was cancelled way before production. |

Thank you so much for clearing that up, KKB. That's good info, but sad to read, because the DC Universe just got a little smaller.

I finally found the JLU Grodd 6-pack at Target today. It was the only one, but I have a feeling there were others and it was not just a return because the
packaging says DC Universe on it, not DC Super Heroes. I'm guessing the new packaging is the design for the relaunch.
Target also had the first wave of the Infinite Heroes line. It's an odd assortment of Silver Age characters, some I'm not familiar with. Black Hand, anyone? Professor Zoom? Not a smart way to launch a toy line, imo. But I've heard Mattel plans to release dozens of characters in this line before the end of the year, so maybe it's all part of the big picture. |

The latest issue of Toyfare has nice shots of the next two series. I particularly like the collect & connect Solomon Grundy. Good summary of upcoming
releases here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DC_Universe_Classics

Awesome! But so many variants. Sigh.
BTW, Mattel launched a site for collectors: www.mattycollector.com It looks like it's still in its infancy, but it does have some figures from SDCC for sale. EDIT Lobo is sold out, but Giganta is still available. Also, I noticed that the final auction prices for Cyborg Superman on eBay are falling. I guess as more people get wind of the rerelease, the prices will come back to a realistic level.

I still haven't seen a single figure from wave two yet. Was the series really tough to find? I've checked both Target and TRU serveral times but
with no luck of course.

I had trouble finding them at Target. In fact, I think I bought most of the figs at TRU. But I work in an office in Times Square, so I was able to check the
TRU there two or three times a week until I found them all.

They were not hard to find at TRU here. Target had tons of the first series, though I don't recall seeing the second series there.

I found a couple of Fan Collection 3-packs at the Target in Brooklyn. The Green Lantern, Captain Atom and Supergirl set looks pretty good, although the paint
looks a little sloppy. The figures are supposed to be specific to an episode of JLU called "Initiation," but the Green Lantern figure is the older
sculpt with hair. In the episode, he's bald with a goatee and mustache.
The other set is Galatea, Superman and Huntress, but the head sculpt on Galatea looks terrible. Her face looks too long and thin. On the card backs are pictures of two other sets: Wonder Woman, the Flash and the Question and a repackaged Green Lantern, Fire and Ice. I hope they come soon, because I never got a chance to pick up the Fire and Ice set. |

Awesome pix! Any luck with the variants?
EDIT The Mattel Online Store has pix of two new figures available this fall, Adam Strange and Starfire. I don't care much for Adam Strange, but Starfire looks really good. http://www.mattycollector...sPage/productID.105864700 Also, Walmart's website has Mongol from the DC Super Heroes line. http://www.walmart.com/ca...uct.do?product_id=6015240 From the description, I don't think they know much about him: "So strong! So cool! With his pumped up muscles, this Mongol action figure looks tough and mighty."

New York sighting: I found a full set of Wave 3 DCU Classics at the Target in the Bronx. Now if I could just find those variants.

Wave 4 already? That was fast! I still haven't found the variants for Wave 3.
EDIT JLU sighting: The Attack from Apokolips set is starting to hit stores. I found a set at a Target in the Bronx. It includes Mr. Miracle, Superman, Forager, Mantis, Darkseid and Lashina. They also had more of the Secret Society sets with Gorilla Grodd. On a side note, Mattel mispelled Apokolips as Apolkolips on the front of the package.

Mattel is interested in hearing about how collectors feel about DCUC chase figures. They've set up a poll at ActionFigureInsider.com. The most popular option is to offer the chase figures at MattyCollector.com. Here's the link. |
