That was... unexpected. Especially with SDCC coming up so soon.
The figure itself... looks pretty much exactly like the MAC Bender, but gold. It's a good choice for an exclusive, being Bender, but also an obscure variant that was only used for one joke in one episode. I kind of want it just because it's a new Futurama figure, but then again I'm not too worried about it, and since I'm not going to SDCC, I'm sure I won't get it. Hopefully they'll have some of the regular release figures shown at SDCC, or at least some details of what's planned will come out. After years of just owning Fry, Leela, and Bender, it'd be nice to at least get Amy, Hermes, Farnsworth, and Zoidberg. |

Sounds promising... but I'll reserve judgment 'til I see lineups and prototypes.

This line sounds awesome. I really liked Toynami's minifigs of this line. I hope that they eventually make a Zap.

Awesome. What other lines has Toynami done...should we be confident in them or a bit hesitant to celebrate?
Futurama could have a ton of figures like WOS, no way they'd have the same consumer support but there are definitely hundreds of figures I'd want, but I'll be happy if we could at least get a couple series or a dozen figures or so. |

The mini's they did can be seen here: www.mwctoys.com/REVIEW_080204b.htm
This line will likely end three series before we get "Zoidberg riding a sperm," which really is unfortunate. |

I think this is outstanding news and makes me feel as though sacrificing my Simpsons toys to the geek gods above has finally paid off!!
I agree that the figure shown does look exactly like the MAC figure (and I even wonder if there is something going on behind the scenes with this) but then again, it is Bender and there is not much you can do with him. A variant like this is also a really great choice and opens the door to future variants (other Universe A) figures since those would be simple repaints as well and they would be show specific. I can see this line getting some better steam on it that the MAC figures were unable to do for whatever reason and would not be surprised if we made it to a third release for these. I really think and actually expect a great variety of figures from Toynami on these as I remember when they released the I-Men figures David X. Cohen and Groening mentioned that one of the things they wanted to see was one robot figure for each human figure released and I can see them making the same kind of requirement for this line. I also think that Toynami is a small enough company that could really make this a successfull line. Very exciting news indeed. RM PS, RocketUSA also has a new Bender figure coming out real soon. |

I held MAC's Bender in my hand and looked at gold Bender and thir similarites are uncanny. The slightly angered eyes, the exact slightly asymmetrical shape of the antenna..I think the head is made from the same mold. But the arms are different, gold Bender's don't stick out at the body quite how MAC's do.

I wonder if Toynami acquired the molds from MAC for the few figures they did. That would explain why Universe 1 Bender here is the MAC Bender's doppelganger.
Either way, I'm snagging one of these at Comic-Con. Ham Salad, Moderator, Simpsons Collector Sector |

With this variant I hope it paves the way for my alltime variant want - Flexo!! Any guesses as to what the first wave will consist of?

Re: Toynami Gets Futurama Figure License

It all depends on how many figures are in each series. Assuming 3, Fry, Bender, Leela. If 4, the Professor too. After that, maybe a robot like Calculon or Robot Devil.

My kingdom for Zoidberg.

Yep, if they're smart they'll put Zoidberg in the first series. Fry, Leela, and Bender have already gotten action figures before, and Zoidberg deserves one just as much as they do.
I hope we get the entire Planet Express crew at some point though, even Scruffy. |

I am going to go out on a limb and say that the first wave will not consist of Fry, Bender and Leela. I think Bender and Fry for sure but I think there has been so much talk over the years from fans wanting other characters (and I think that Toynami is looking past a first wave) that we may see 1 or 2 other characters in this first wave. Zapp and Zoidberg are certainly high on most peoples list of wants.
I just can't see Toynami just recreating the MAC line once again. The line was good but there seemed to be lots of disappointment it never went past the first wave and other characters were not produced. RM |

Re: Toynami Gets Futurama Figure License

I bought all the MAC figures immediately so I don't really know, but are they hard at all to acquire now? Most companies don't think of letting previous attemtps cover ground for them.
I fully expect to get a Toynami Fry, Bender, and Leela soon...maybe not all in the first wave, but very early on. |

Re: Toynami Gets Futurama Figure License

Dont get me wrong, I want Zoidberg, but I also want Fry, Bender and Leela. I never bought the MAC figs and never could stomach dropping the inflated secondary market prices on them (they were all $20-30 each when I looked at them a few years back). So while i want Zoidberg, I want the main characters just as much. There's no way Toynami can count on people owning those three old figs... those came out when ? '99 ? 2000 ?

I'm not sure Toynami would have been my first choice, but I'm glad there are more Futurama figures on the way!
