And the sad part is, I know these email's are set ups, and I still screwed it up somehow.

I've actually gotten burned with one of these scams. I'm not quite sure how it happened, I think I opened up the email and accidently hit the link when I went for the delete button and they got my ebay password. Ebay actually locked my account so no one could sell or buy anything from it. After a phone call to ebay after I couldn't list something, I got it straightened out. Luckily nothing bad had happened. But it's easier to get hit then you might think. Ebay basically will never contact you via normal email. Only through their messages on ebay.com or whatever it is that they use.

I was scammed today! Some jerk highjacked my account, changed the password and primary e-mail address (so I had no way of logging in) and listed an auction for $1000.00 for some baseball tickets! I felt sick to my stomach!
I went to the online chat help and the woman there helped me clear everything up. She cancelled the auction, refunded the fees and helped me change my password. I know how I got tricked too... last week someone e-mailed me saying that they were waiting for an item they won from me and were going to report me to Ebay. I had just sold a bunch of stuff, so I thought it might be legit, so I clicked the link and followed up, finding out that this guy wasn't one of my winning bidders. I assumed he e-mailed the wrong guy by accident, but obviously it was all part of a scam to get my information. Hell, I almost deleted the e-mail saying my account had been altered, thinking that was a scam! Luckily I checked it out, otherwise I'd have been screwed. |

Re: PayPal/eBay Email Scams... (Always Assume The Worst) | ||

Here's a simple tip-
Put your mouse over any link in any email before you click it. Doing this should show the true link. Be very careful. Also- forward ANY suspicious emails to either: spoof@ebay.com spoof@paypal.com ...depending on what site the email is related to. They'll send a reply back quickly to tell you if it's a fake. |

MSN Scam | ||
|
Lately i have been getting some e-mails from people saying that they checked my MSN profile and think i am hot and want me to add them to friends list or something. and they had msn names like hotblonde69 etc.
Although i am hot(BS meter off the the charts), i havent used msn in at least 3 years, and definately dont have a picture or any kind of profile. What would they possibly want? The e-mail address the e-mails came from were like this: yb@alsdjhdaslfhaslukfhdaso.com anyone else get these? |

PS3 scam | ||
|
I just got a fake second chance offer for a 60 gig PS3 with resistance here is the e-mail:
Dear krae_man, You expressed interest on an item. I'm the owner of that item on which you've recently bided on through the eBay system.I have begun this offer because the winner of my auction withdrew his bidding and was rejected due to security reasons. There are a lot of bidders who bid on the auctions for fun and I hope you are serious and we can make a clear deal... In compliance with eBay policy I'm giving you the chance to buy the item at your last bid price... So the final price will be US $499.99... If you accept this offer the eBay policy automatically proclaims you winner by default. The transaction will go strictly according to eBay's RULES and POLICY and will be supervised by eBay Trust & Safety Department. If you are interested just contact me, k23st17@aol.com is my email... I am waiting a fast response! All the best, Adam & Clark, Inc. Structural Engineer Department Of Construction Consulting It was not in my messages. If you look at the auction he got 1175 for a good ebayer but it did not meet the reserve. and there is no way he would give a second chance offer for less than what he paid. Man I wish it were real. I reported to ebay. I got an email yesterday(Dec 19th 2006) from someone sent them money and wanted to know if they got scammed. They did a google search and found my post here. Man how could someone actually fall for this? I had to nicely tell them that they are screwed. |
